Mini pig is the collective name of small species of the common domestic pig. There are several different breeds, but they all weigh less than 80kg as adults. They usually weigh between 20-40kg.
Mini pigs are small, cute and very intelligent. They have a mind of their own and don't always do what their owners want. But if you work with them, they turn out to be easy to teach and easy to train to do different things. Pigs are omnivores and eat most things. If you own a mini pig, you have to be careful not to make it overweight. Exercise is of course very important for pigs! Pigs have several natural behaviours that they need to exercise. For example, they want to poop. You can never train away their need to poop and many mini pig owners report that if the pigs are not allowed to poop in the ground, they will poop among the family's shoes or the home's carpets.
Pigs have been used by humans in many ways. We raise pigs to slaughter and eat, and we use them for tracking, as they have a very good sense of smell. In France, for example, they are used to smell out the sought-after truffle mushroom. More recently, we have also come to appreciate pigs as pets.
