At Lilla Zoo, you can meet our Gutefår, a Swedish landrace with ancient origins. The breed's appearance and wool correspond well with northern European archaeological finds. Due to a sharp decline in numbers, controlled breeding of the breed was started in the 1940s. Today's Gutefår originates from around 30 individuals from Gotland. The Gutefåret is not considered an endangered breed and there are over 4000 individuals, but conservation work is carried out as part of our cultural heritage.
In the Gute sheep, both rams and ewes can have horns, although rams' horns are larger and coarser than ewes'.
