Monkey day
14 December 2017
Today we celebrate Monkey Day and just like other theme days, we take the opportunity to pay a little extra attention to our animals. During the morning, animal keeper Marlene has been visiting p4 Sörmland's studio and talking monkeys and we have of course taken the opportunity to request some monkey songs in favour of Musikhjälpen.
The clip with Marlene can be found here (3h 10 min into the programme)!
We also celebrate a little extra with our monkey friends at the park. They got both cake and a snow bus!

Did you know that:
- There are 437 known species of primates, and nearly 70% are classified as threatened or near threatened.
- Parken Zoo is home to 12 species of primates, all of which are part of conservation projects.
- 5 of the park's primates are critically endangered.
- Three different species of lemurs live in the park.
- The longest-lived animal at the park is our white-handed gibbon Tarzan, who has lived at the park since 1975.
- We humans also belong to the primate group of animals.
- Everyone can play a role in reducing threats to monkeys by avoiding palm oil and giant prawns, reducing consumption, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions and, above all, raising awareness of environmental issues and spreading the message about the threat to biodiversity.
Happy Monkey Day to you all!
