Why are our insects important?

Biodiversity refers to the different living creatures that one would expect to find in a particular ecosystem.
People want to get others to help our minibeasts and insects by creating ”forgotten spaces” on balconies, terraces, gardens and community areas to give them a chance to recover and thrive. If these animals were to disappear from the ecosystem, very strange things would happen, such as bees not being able to spread pollen from flowers and ensure that they grow.
How empty it would be without all the lawns, beautiful flowers, and all the delicious berries one can eat!
The campaign aims to raise awareness of what biodiversity entails and how everyone can help keep ecosystems healthy for all forms of life, including humans.
Parken Zoo is of course participating, and we have put up tips around Parken on what you can do to contribute.
This Saturday, the 13th of May, we're giving this day a little extra attention.
In our desert house, located within the zoo, we have exhibitors from;

The Sörmland Entomologists together with the Sörmland Insect Society
In addition to our usual animal meetings, at 12.00 pm you can join an insect viewing in the Desert House.

The campaign is organised by three associations, the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), the European Network of Science Centres and Museums (Ecsite) and Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and is about biodiversity.
