Yesterday was a big moving day here at Parken Zoo, as some animals left us to start their own families and others arrived to form new breeding pairs. Threatened animals that are part of conservation breeding programmes have a coordinator who, among other things, organises where new breeding pairs will be formed, partly based on genetics so that genetic diversity is also preserved.
For our cloud rat Skorpan and our tamandua Lola, it was time to move out. Skorpan is moving to Paris and Lola to Antwerp in Belgium.
But as mentioned, we have also gained new residents for the park. A male fishing cat has moved here to form a new pair, as well as a female fossa who will join our five-year-old males. Both come from Duisburg in Germany. They will now get to familiarise themselves with their new home for a while before meeting their new family members.
We welcome our new residents and wish all the best for the future to those who have moved out of their parents' homes.
